Country Music Fantasy Camp's First Camp in Nashville is a SUCCESS!
Updated: Sep 4, 2019
The first Country Music Fantasy Camp was a complete success! We had a total of 9 talented campers at our July 28-31, 2019 camp. Many campers were from Nashville while others came all the way from Denver and even San Francisco! One kind husband purchased this for his amazing wife as a birthday gift.
We started with an opening reception at The Dream Hotel where many will be staying for future camps. Our Master of Ceremonies, Tim Watson kicked things off with stories from his amazing past which included playing fiddle with the likes of Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, George Jones and recently Kid Rock. Shortly after, based on the profiles each camper sent in, we introduced the campers with their new bandmates and things fell into place from there. Later than evening, some of the campers went out together to get to explore Nashville and know each other a bit better. Others went to sleep and rested up for the coming days.
The next day was magic! All of the campers met at Off the Row Studios in Franklin, TN about 30 minutes from downtown Nashville. Each band of 4-5 members had its own writing room and the creative process took off from there. Our two coaches, Mackenzie Wasner and Steve Williams who wrote Redneck Yacht Club by Craig Morgan worked with their respective bands to write an original country music song. Steve’s band who called themselves Big Worm and The Early Birds went with a visit to their childhood and created a song called “Little Red Radio”. Mackenzie’s band The Betties decided to compare Nashville from years gone by to the current Nashville culture today. Their smash hit “Ghost Town to Git Down” definitely delivered! Later that afternoon, each band worked with our expert photographer, Erin McCaffrey of McCaffrey Photographers for a band photoshoot! The day wasn't over yet! Each band was given the opportunity to take a non-country song and turn it into a country song! Each of the bands chose classics such as “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin and “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns and Roses. Hands down, one of the best remakes we've ever heard! They did a great job!
The next day we all arrived at Treasure Isle Recorders in the Berry Hill area of Nashville. This is the same studio that all of Jason Aldean’s songs were recorded and the likes of Dolly Parton and many others. Each band spent time with our expert musicians to create songs written the previous day. While one band was recording, the other went next door to the Guitar Center PRO facility for a tour and an opportunity to purchase instruments at the artist’s pricing. They continued on with the next photoshoot session as well. The campers were simply amazed by how music is created in a studio. “It was an experience of a lifetime,” said one camper.
That night, we had a great private dinner inside the George Jones Museum followed by our campers and musicians teaming up to sing… just about anything they wanted! Some did Rock ‘n’ Roll, some country covers… other’s originals from their past. Tim Watson sang Willie Nelson and if you closed your eyes, you would swear Willie was in the room with us. People had a great time and we were almost kicked out of the joint as no one really wanted to stop!
The following morning, bands and our professional musicians spent the morning rehearsing their four songs to make sure they were ready when the place opened! They were ready! Our musicians did play a few country covers to get things started and for all could loosen up. With the time to play the songs written two days prior and recorded the cay before! “Who gets to do this?” said one camper as she was getting ready to take the stage for real! They knocked it out of the park as they say! Each band did a great job. We had a great time listening to the campers talking about our experience over BBQ for lunch at Jack’s!
Our campers had a great time. “For me, this was a dream come true and I am sure it was the same for our incredible campers,” said Bob Ekman, Founder, and CEO of Country Music Fantasy Camp. “I don’t think we could have had better campers for our first one,” said Mackenzie Wasner, one of Country Music Fantasy Camp’s amazing coaches. Special thanks to the great musicians and coaches led by PT Houston… Steve Williams, Mackenzie Wasner, Tim Watson, Tim Buppert, John Foster, Gary Nance, and Steve Hinson!
Our first campers… Brian Huff, Robby Kitterman, Bree Lancaster and Jessica Sirls (The Betties) and “Big Worm” Bartlett, Rebecca Indarte, Amie Kiehn, Kim Stutz and Kayla Zadel (Big Worm & The Early Birds).
Our next camp will be November 3-6, 2019 hosted by the talented Tim Rushlow of Little Texas.
